Semester 6

Design Studio VI: ADP

Architectural Design Project is a studio that forms the capstone project for the Bachelors of Science (Honours) Architecture programme, emphasizing the broad theme of sustaining humanities. This module is a thematic studio based on the theme of ‘sustaining humanities’ architecture for people, place and time. Designing for sustainability has been a fundamental issue for architects in our time within global and regional contexts. In line with the current discourse on sustainability, it upholds the belief that architecture can create better places, that architecture can affect society and humanity, and that it can have a role in making a
place civilized by making a community liveable.

To achieve this aim, the design project is divided into three main phases: Project 1a: Pre-Design Phase: site studies, urban/contextual analysis, impact analysis and initial design intention and studies. 1b: Schematic Phase: design strategies, exploration of spatial organization and form design. 1c: Final Design phase: Final Presentation and Comprehensive Report.

Project Management

Project Management is an application of knowledge, skills and techniques for which to execute projects effectively and efficiently using strategic competency for organizations, enabling them to connect project results to business goals. This module’s aim is to develop management skills for us in the ever growing subject called Project Management. Informally been practiced in many aspects of work, but began to emerge as a distinct profession in the mid- 20th century.

The module introduces the principles, techniques and managerial issues, which form the process of project management. The area of study will focus in particular on project management in a construction context but will also make considerable reference to the activity in other fields of commercial and business activity to emphasize the broad applicability of the principle.
