Project 2: A temporary shelter
The main aim of Project 2 is to expand the interpretation of the users by exploring the relationships between human body and designed form. We as the users will define the intention of the space and its form based on our personality and human body.
Project 2 will be divided into 2 stages; first we shall explore the notions of scale and proportion. This is done through a series of exploratory in-class exercises where we explore human form (anthropometry). We will then progress on to understanding how the human body relates to space, and further developing an understanding of scale and proportion in relationship with body and space. The 2 stages mentioned will be presented by groups in the intention to enhance the ability to articulate space and form from interpretations of the users. This development will be through a series tests and investigations involving scaled models ‘study models’. The Final Design will then be produced as a 1:1 scale assembly and installation work.

AMBIVERT
The concept of our shelter is based on the ecosystem of the beach. We studied on our site's environment and capability of building a shelter there in terms of weather other factors. We have used the hermit crab species as our design concept for our shelter form. Hermit crab is an amazing animal who can helped shelter itself from the surroundings and protect itself with the use of its shell. Our research will be based on how the animal lived inside the shell, which is also related to shell architecture.

Next, we'll be looking into human anthropometry: How does the body shape the space? How does the space dictate the body movement? How the non-physical requirement of the user does is expressed and translated into design & form? We used the overall average height of our group members, including myself, to resolve these question.
One of our group member, Shan En will be our model for the shelter. Therefore, we'll build a shelter according to her personality, She possessed an ambivert personality as she likes to view an open area but stayed in a private area at the same time. The things she preferred to do at the beach is reading, relaxing in the shade and enjoying the view of the horizon.

SHELL-TER
The design of the shelter is a transition of of solid and void due to our concept (ambivert), from being an introvert to an extrovert, showing how an ambivert adapt to their body movement within the space. We used closely arranged blinds (private), rings cut out from bamboo (partially open), and bubble wraps (open) to indicate the transition. As Shan En prefer to read in the shade, we made a back rest with a bed made out of bamboo for her to enjoy reading and relaxing by the beach.

For materials of the shelter, we used bamboo for our structure of the building as it has high tensile strength in its tissue and it is a non polluting material, functioned as a natural resource perfectly. Bamboos are easy to cut, transport, store or maintain as it is a light building material. One of our member, Charlotte, was a girl scout back in high school, therefore she taught all 7 of us how to tied knots on the bamboos using ropes. Credits to her, we have used the most efficient & natural way to attached the shelter without using any mechanical devices.
