Project 1: Representing Me

The purpose of the project is for us to unravel our creative side and inner self through several specific modes of communication or art form. We as designers will generate ideas from self-identity through personal interests, preferences, attitude and personality. These ideas and qualities will later on be applied to an artwork, to be placed in your designated studio zone. Artwork is to be displayed within the zone given in the studio, either on the ceiling, floor, or around the drafting table.  Representation of self must only be interpreted in abstracted form where in it requires rigorous design thinking and highest form of creative interpretation. The final outcome of the project is open to any possibilities, meaning we are free to explore form, materials and techniques as long as it shows the creative and personal identity and is well explained in the written essay.

Representing Me: Commensalism

This model is to represent my personality through 3 different stages, which represent my past, present & future. Commensalism can be defined as a type of symbiotic relationship in ecological terms, which means when 2 parties are involved in a relationship, one party (commensal) gains benefit from the other party (host), without harming the host. The host is neither harm nor gain benefit from the commensal.

To me, commensalism can be explained through my introvert personality: When my friends (commensal) made fun of me or joke about me, I (host) will not fight back or get offended by their jokes, I will either stay silent or do nothing at all. The benefit gained is the happiness of making fun of me for the commensal, which I have no effect towards their actions, no harm done.

The 3 stages are to show the process of me gradually being commensalism throughout my life. From being sad with others' jokes towards me, to feeling nothing because I'm immune to their unrelatable jokes.
