Project 2: Construction Details & Specifications

This project is designed to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of construction and application from prior projects. Emphasis in producing related manual construction drawing detail and specification. One of the aims of this assignment is to develop an awareness and understanding of the strong inter-relationship between these two areas of study. Critical success of any design project relies on a designer’s ability to address issues of appropriate methods of construction, integration of structure and the selection of materials whilst addressing the many other complex issues that are part of the design process.

Our task is to find and analyse the floor plan and section plan on the construction of a 2-storey or 3-storey residential building. We are to analyze and propose 2 construction details from the building chosen, eg. Roof, Staircase, Wall, Window, Door and Floor slab. The construction method must consist use of either timber, steel, concrete or composite material shown in the section and details of the drawings. Our drawings must include the appropriate specifications, symbols, dimensions and the proposed materials clearly.

Vida House // studioLOOP

The building I chose is a residential house in Tokorozawa, Japan, with floor area 72.23 meter square only. This is a project for husband, wife, and 2 children. Vida is a house located in Saitama, Japan. The site is a high-residential area and has a neighboring house in the east and the north.

The south is built with shops across narrow streets whereas rich tea gardens are spreading in the west. Since it is a densely populated area, we derived firstly to the maximum possible volume from the volume ratio and the north side shaded line which are decided by law. In order to cope with environmental burdens while taking in the scenery, we planned living, dining, and kitchen with a large opening using Low-E glass on the second floor. The floor was a one-room with all its floor space, a storage space full of ceiling in the north and south, and a dry area that was accentuated on the exterior as part of the south.

In addition to the entrance that jumped out black on the first floor, the bedroom and the utilities are compactly summarized. The house which the appearance is simple as well as incorporated privacy and maximize the landscape, gives to the town accented.
