FINAL PROJECT -

LEGO DISPLAY SET

INTRODUCTION

The final project of Design is to build a Lego Display Set using your own given Lego.

The display set has to be built with the knowledge of cube manipulation. We had to achieve this using the cube manipulation methods as learned in the previous project 3, as well as the elements and principles of design from the 1st assignment.

We have to produce a model (Lego Display Set) & 3 A2 size presentation boards manually.

DESIGN PROCESS

My character, Giant is a typical neighborhood bully in the television series, Doraemon. The keyword I'm focusing on is Dominant. Giant likes to be the most powerful one among his friends. Attention is a very important thing for him, either when he's bullying kids or singing in his recitals.

The design principles I'm applying in my model is Hierarchy and Emphasis, which both expressed levels of dominance.

CONCEPT

MOCK UP MODELS

I'll focus on this mock up model only, as it is the one who inspired me to build the final model. This mock up model consist of a double hierarchy, from bottom to top, and from top to bottom. The purpose is to place Giant in the center of attention.

I added the reflective sheets to show that Giant loves attention, wherever he goes, there'll always be reflections of himself. For the bully part, the reflections are used to trap its victims, in a way, it means that the victims can't escape from Giant's sight.

FINAL MODEL MAKING

I discovered that two 60° angle planes can caused multiple reflections, so I interlocked two 60° angled plane mirrors on each of the pixelate cubes. Now, when I placed the Giant Lego in the middle, it is able to show multiple reflections around him.

I have also considered the placements of Giant, wherever he stood, he can appeared in multiple planes.

FINAL OUTCOME

Overall, I am quite satisfy with my results as all my hard works and sleepless nights have paid off. From this project, I have learnt how to apply the manipulation techniques in designing models and how to compose a professional presentation board.

To improve, you have to listen and accept all the critics. Talk is cheap, doing it is the challenge.
